This year’s eclipse is special in many ways. It will be the last total lunar eclipse visible from Toronto until 2019. Also, it’s taking place during a “supermoon.” A supermoon occurs when the full (or new) Moon is closest to Earth in its orbit.

So join us for all the FREE super fun:

  • See the Moon through our telescopes
  • Talk to U of T astronomers about lunar eclipses and anything else astronomical
  • Learn how to take photos of the moon
  • Enter our Lunar Eclipse Photography Contest for a chance to win prizes. Full details >
  • Take a virtual tour of the Moon using our Oculus Rift virtual reality headset
  • Explore the digital cosmos using World Wide Telescope virtual telescope
  • And more!

SCHEDULE:

8:30 pm – Let’s get this party started!
9:07 pm – Partial eclipse begins: only a portion of the Moon is in the Earth’s shadow during the partial phase.
10:11 pm – Total eclipse begins: the entire Moon is in the Earth’s shadow.
10:47 pm – Midpoint of total eclipse.
11:23 pm – Total eclipse ends.
12:27 am – Partial eclipse ends.
